Research Projects

Since I started doing scientific research in 2014, I have done projects spanning physics, materials science, electrical, chemical, and mechanical engineering. They were done at different academic labs, national lab, startups, and big tech company. Below are some of my projects in reverse-chronological order.

Novel SARS-Cov-2 Disinfection

I co-invented a patent-pending viral disinfection technology. I co-founded a company based on this technology, Avant Photonics Inc., where I serve as the CEO. This project was awarded an Ignition Grant by Columbia Engineering Entrepreneurship.

HAMR: Head-Assisted Magnetic Recording

I interned as an integration and process engineer at Western Digital at Fremont CA, and worked on the R&D of HAMR.

Optimization of Thermochemical Reactions for Eco-friendly Plastic Materials Production

At Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory to work on science for clean energy. I learned about bringing science from the bench to the market for the first time.

Magneto Infrared Spectroscopy of Graphene Micro-Devices

For an REU project at Georgia Tech, I gained expertise in photolithography, as well as cryogenic magneto characterization.

Photon Avalanching Nanoparticles

At Columbia University, My PhD research on ANPs has led to a Nature publication and a patent.

Stationary Wide-Angle Concentrator PV System

During my gap year between undergraduate and graduate schools, I worked as an R&D engineer at a solar energy startup.

Radiation Pattern and Scattering Properties of Optical Antennas

For an REU project at UC Berkeley, I characterized optical antennas both with experiments and simulations.

Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) Graphene Growth and Characterization

I spent 2 years of my undergraduate on growing and studying the properties of graphene.
